Midnight Rising The Midnight Breed Book 4 Lara Adrian Books

The book was very good, the last half. The first half was slow and there was A LOT of explaining about the Breed, who each member was etc. It was like Ms. Adrian wanted this to be a stand alone book but it's not, it's part of a series and if you haven't read the books before this one then that is the readers fault. I didn't like having to go back over a lot of things I already read before so again, I ended up skipping through quite a bit of the first half of the book. That is my reason for the 3 star on this one. I loved Rio and Dylan but I felt like I missed a lot of their love story with "filler" words. Since I paid $7.99 for this Kindle book and felt that I only got half a book, I may not continue on with the series. I guess I am a little disappointed.

Midnight Rising The Midnight Breed Book 4 Lara Adrian Books Reviews

I just finish reading the breed series and what can I say but WOW!!!
I'm glad I got all 4 bks first, because as I got into the story, I just devoured them.
I least expected to like this series, especially after reading JR Ward's BDB books.(the 1st 3 were excellent) But I didn't care much for the BDB books that followed after the 3rd one. In the Breed series, I loved everyone of the books. And Dec is too darn long to wait for the 5th bk, in my opinion.

Onto the book.
All the heroes in this series are wonderful but Rio, he just steals your breath away. He truly does.
When you first meet Rio from bk one he is the happy go lucky guy, with a perpetual smile. (later on you realise there is more to him and the torment and darkness that he hides behind his smiling fascade. He allowed no one to know the real man, until Dylan.)

All that changes when he's betrayed by his mate, Eva, and he nearly loses his life in the explosion. As he recovers he's filled with pain, rage and hatred and changes drastically.( Who can blame the poor guy?)
Besides the horrendous pain and terrible blackouts he has to live with, the explosion leaves half his face and body badly scarred.
In hate and bitterness, he lives in isolation for a long time. When he can't take it any more, feeling he has nothing to live for, he finally decides to end it all. That is the day when Dylan accidently stumbles upon him in his cave. And his life changes once again.
And Dylan, she discovers a world she never knew existed and falls for a man who was like no other.

This series is gripping stuff. It has everything, Alpha heroes, strong heroines, wonderful loves scenes and a HEA. And don't forget those sexy vampire markings-whew!!!
This is my kinda book.
I like that this books doesn't devote pages upon pages to the Rogues (the Breeds enemies). Lara Adrian does this in a more forthright manner and she make it still interesting. And you have a mystery-threat which doesn't continue tediously throughout the series, which can be frustrating, but is solved by the 3rd book and a new threat comes from the closure of the last problem. It makes for exciting reading.
I like the way LA created her vampire race and how they came to be in existance. And the fact that they are warm-blooded, have a heartbeat and are half human. Its their human half that makes them the truly wonderful heroes they are. It tempers the other half that would have made them vicious and dangerous and true vampires.

Though I did not like what Eva had done, I'm glad she redeems herself in the end.
the story however, between H/H could have been a bit more indept and longer.
I thought I wasn't going to like this book, because I wasn't really interested in Rio. In the previous books he was so far gone into his madness that I thought he would be too difficult or painful to heal. I was pleasantly surprised by his resilience, by the way he was able to keep himself in check, even during his darkest moments.

I think Dylan was a good heroine, a perfect match for Rio. Their relationship deepened with slow delicacy. There were too many moments when the same feelings kept coming back, so I confess I skimmed a few pages. I liked better the parts when Dylan and Rio were out of the compound or the Darkhaven. I also found Dylan's special ability fascinating because I like ghosts. The world building is growing on me and I think the new menace the Breed is going to face is much more interesting than the storyline of Lukan's brother in the previous books *** possible spoiler *** even if there was too big a coincidence in the plot ***end spoiler***.

I am happy I kept reading the series after the second book, which was my least favorite. The setting is coherent and it becomes more complex in a good way. There is a set of rules in the world that the author is obeying to and even if in the beginning I found the idea of vampires coming from the space a bit ridiculous, it's getting more and more captivating. I am looking forward to Nikolai's book.
I started out picturing this one going in a different direction. I wasn't disappointed when it didn't go the way I was expecting but I find it difficult to connect with the characters. Perhaps, it's not enough inner dialogue that gets me closer to the character and to learn a little more about them for a connection. It's still an enjoyable read.

In every other kind of novel you'd read if the hero's ex betrayed him he'd normally face some sort of perceived betrayal from his heroine but that doesn't happen in Adrian's novels. I find it confusing and yet exciting at the same time because it definitely makes it harder to predict and lets me honest, knowing what's coming is not all that exciting.

Rio has full intentions of ending it all. Betrayed by his bonded female he's left with physical and mental scars. One last mission for the Order. He can't seem to bring himself to finish it. He's starving and hallucinating when he see's Dylan. A reporter who's entered the cave he's meant to destroy. Not only that but she gets pictures of him and the dermaglyphs surrounding the interior. He knows that he can't let her go or fail his mission for the Order.

I enjoyed this one and knowing that Nikolai was next I couldn't resist picking up the next book in the series.
The book was very good, the last half.
